Did you know that between Thanksgiving and Christmas Americans throw away 25% more trash? In efforts to reduce waste and garbage over the holidays the City of Tacoma and King, Kitsap and Thurston counties have joined together for the 12th year in a promotion that supports the gift of an experience instead of gifts of material items for the holidays. The promotion Waste Free Holidays runs Nov. 15 – Dec. 31, so hurry.
In a state that prides itself on being progressive and green in voice and action, there is no reason why the whole state wouldn’t come together on this idea of waste reduction. The fact that local businesses are offering a discount of 15 to 50% should be enough enticement of its own.
How does it work, how can you get involved? In King County alone there are 150 discounted “experience” gift offers. Surf www.metrokc.gov/dnrp/swd/wastefreeholidays/ and find one that fits someone on your shopping list. Browse through the categories of music, plays, sporting events, museums, restaurant meals, massages and fitness.
The King County Solid Waste Division and Seattle Public Utilities sponsor the King County program.
Here are several offers we found that would delight any Seattleite!
