Quick and Easy
Who: Performers from 17 countries
Where: Seattle Center
When: May 12 – 17, 2008
Why: Nonstop entertainment for audiences of all ages!
Keeping children entertained can be a rather tricky task. Short attention spans paired with a constant need to be stimulated create a challenge for even the most captivating Blues Clues episode. Not anymore.
Next week, Seattle Center will lend its facilities for the 22nd Annual Seattle International Children’s Festival. The six-day event promises to be jam-packed with endless hours of entertainment. Performers representing seventeen different countries will take the stage to dazzle the audience with puppetry, circus acts, theatre, music, dance and so much more.
This year’s festival showcases powerful women of the world; highlighted artists include Women Master Drummers of Guinea, Colombian percussive singer Petrona Martinez and the very talented U.K./Palestine Reem Kelani.
The fun will continue off-stage and throughout the city as children are presented several opportunities to get involved. For example, they may choose to assemble and decorate a koi fish kite. Or, perhaps they will explore the world of flamingos or swirl and twist their hips with a hula hoop stuntman. The possibilities are plentiful and the enrichment great, as could only be expected from such an innovative organization as SICF.
Since its inauguration in 1986, SICF has become a leader in educational and imaginative programs geared towards enhancing the lives of children; it has proven to be successful well beyond its hometown of Seattle. Claimed by The New York Times as “one of the most far-reaching arts festivals for young people in the country,” this event is a cultural extravaganza sure to enchant all audience members, whether they are six or sixty!
The magic kicks-off Monday, May 12th with an international variety show that will undoubtedly set the excitement for the nights to follow. Be sure to check out the SICF website for more information about the organization, as well as performance descriptions, times, locations and ticket pricing; it will be the perfect way to give that tired TV a break!
