Seattle True Independent Film Festival
By Sarah Llyod
The Quick and Easy:
What: Truley independent film festival of music and comedy
When: June 6-15th 2008
Where: All over Seattle
Why: Expand your mind, why else?
Seattlites beware, the dark screens of low-budget reels flicker our way. The battle for the True independent film will commence on June 6th, taking over Seattle’s screens for ten days with the bizarre, touching and freakishly mundane.
The arrival of the fourth annual Seattle True Independent Film Festival (STIFF) is not an event for the meek movie watcher. Founded in 2005 the Seattle True Independent Film Festival has spent the last three years showcasing innovative cinematic, musical and comedic works from some of the world’s most promising new artists. With a focus on local artists, STIFF prides itself on supporting Northwest talent, but what really separates STIFF from the competition is its dedication to maintaining the purity of the independent art form. STIFF celebrates the unpredictable, the imaginative and passionately driven filmmaker, musician and comedian by taking a risk with a diverse selection off-beat artists who might not otherwise have gotten a chance to shine.
Not just a film festival, this year STIFF will raise the bar, with the continuation and renovation of STIFF Licks. Last year STIFF added the Licks as a way to celebrate independent music and stand-up comedy, offering up a dynamic selection of live performances. This year STIFF pledges to further this new tradition, by integrating the Licks and flicks in a more seamless manner to create a truly unique multimedia encounter that diverges from the norm. By inventively combining the emerging talent, in filmmaking, music and comedy, this year’s festival promises to be a one of a kind experience.
The Festival begins in on June 6th and goes through the 12th. It will take place at a variety of venues across Seattle. For times, dates and venues visit: http://www.trueindependent.org/
